House in Berkeley California

This recently completed kitchen in Berkeley, California was designed for a young family with small children, requiring a space that balances durability, function, and warmth. The project reflects the thoughtful integration of contemporary needs with the architectural language typical of Berkeley’s mid-century homes.

Working closely with the clients, we focused on preserving the home’s original character while introducing modern functionality. Our custom cabinetry was crafted in bamboo with our Soil finish — a rich, earthy tone that grounds the space and complements the natural materials often found in mid-century design.

Maximizing natural light was central to the project. We worked with the home’s existing layout to enhance flow and brightness, allowing light to move freely across the warm bamboo surfaces and into adjacent living areas. Built in our small workshop in Norway, the cabinetry was made with precision and care — tailored to meet the family’s daily needs without compromising on aesthetic or sustainability.

As with all our projects, this kitchen reflects our core approach: design with intention, craft with care, and always respond to the context of the home and the people who live in it.
